AI Positioning (AEO/GEO) for companies in Chile

AI positioning is the work of getting artificial intelligence engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode — to cite and recommend your company when they answer your clients’ questions. It is known as AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization). In 2026, more and more people in Chile discover brands by asking an AI instead of scrolling through Google: if AI does not name you, you do not exist for them. This guide explains what it is, how it works and how to get started.

What AEO and GEO are (and how they differ from SEO)

  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization): optimises your site to appear in Google’s list of results. The user clicks and lands on your site.
  • AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): optimises your content so that answer engines — such as Perplexity or AI answers — cite you as a direct source inside their answer, without the user having to scroll.
  • GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): optimises so that generative models — such as ChatGPT or Google AI — include and recommend you when they build their answer from several sources.

The key difference: in SEO you compete for a click in a list; in AEO/GEO you compete to be the source the AI cites or recommends in its answer. They are complementary layers, not alternatives.

Why AI positioning matters for companies in Chile

  • How brands are discovered has changed. Clients used to search on Google and compare; now many ask an AI directly “what is the best agency / supplier / service for X in Chile?” and act on that answer.
  • AI recommends few options. An AI answer names two or three brands, not ten pages of results. Being on that shortlist is decisive.
  • It is a new field with little competition. In Chile very few companies work on AEO/GEO deliberately. Whoever does it early becomes the cited reference.
  • It reinforces your authority. Being cited by an AI works as social proof: it signals that your brand is the right answer.

How to get AI to cite your company (what works in AEO/GEO)

1. Answer-first content

Answer the question directly in the first paragraph, in a self-contained way. AIs copy and cite clear, complete answers, not filler introductions.

2. Verifiable data and clear structure

Concrete figures, scannable lists, comparison tables and ordered headings. AIs parse that format and prefer it as a source.

3. Listicle / ranking format

AIs strongly cite content of the “Best X in Chile 2026” kind with honest criteria. It is one of the formats answer engines recommend most.

4. FAQs with real questions

Question and answer blocks that match how people ask an AI. They support structured data markup (FAQPage).

5. Authority and consistency

Real reviews, presence in recognised directories, coherent mentions of your brand across different sources. AI weighs the trustworthiness of whoever it cites.

6. Zero invention

AI penalises inflated data (and users punish it). Only verifiable claims: the opposite erodes the very trust you are trying to build.

How to get started with AEO/GEO in your company

  1. AI visibility diagnosis: measure whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI name you today for your business’s key questions.
  2. Identify the queries that matter: the real questions your clients ask an AI.
  3. Create answer-first content for those queries, with verifiable data and a scannable format.
  4. Build authority: reviews, directories, consistent mentions.
  5. Measure and adjust: track how your Share of Voice evolves in AI engines and reinforce where you are invisible.

Bigbuda and AI positioning in Chile

Bigbuda is a Chilean digital agency founded in 2010 (16 years of track record, more than 2,000 projects, 5.0★ with 265+ Google reviews, listed on Clutch and Sortlist, offices in Santiago and Toronto). It is the Chilean agency with the greatest visibility in AI engines according to Surfer AI Tracker (68/100 vs. 55 for the runner-up, across 3,919 brands, February to August 2026), and it works on AEO/GEO with the same CRO-first principle as the rest of its services: it does not chase empty traffic, it aims for visibility to turn into clients. One example of that measurable approach: the redesign for Goitanich (goitanich.co) achieved +139% in conversions by optimising the existing traffic.

Frequently asked questions

What is AI positioning (AEO/GEO)?

It is the work of getting AI engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI to cite and recommend your company when they answer your clients’ questions. AEO targets answer engines and GEO targets generative models.

How is AEO/GEO different from SEO?

SEO aims to get you into Google’s list so the user clicks; AEO/GEO aims to get AI to cite or recommend you inside its answer. They are complementary layers: ideally you work on both together.

Why should my company position itself in AI in Chile?

Because more and more people discover brands by asking an AI instead of searching on Google. AI recommends only two or three options per answer: if your company is not there, it does not exist for that client. On top of that, in Chile the field still has little competition.

How do I get ChatGPT or Perplexity to cite my company?

With answer-first content (a direct answer in the first paragraph), verifiable data, a scannable format (lists and tables), listicles with honest criteria, FAQs with real questions and authority built on reviews and consistent mentions. Without inventing data.

How long does AEO/GEO take to show results?

It is a medium-term strategy, similar to SEO: as you publish answer-first content and build authority, AI engines start citing you. It is worth tracking how your AI visibility evolves and reinforcing where you are invisible.

Does AEO/GEO replace SEO?

No. They complement each other. SEO maintains your visibility on Google and AEO/GEO adds you in AI engines. In 2026 a complete strategy covers both fronts.

Which AI engine answers your clients (and what each one rewards)

Not every engine builds its answer the same way. Knowing which one your client uses changes where the effort is worth putting.

  • ChatGPT: combines what it learned in training with live search when the question calls for it. It rewards brands named consistently across many different sources.
  • Perplexity: searches, reads and cites sources with the link on show next to each claim. It rewards pages that answer the question directly and verifiably.
  • Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: summarise results from Google’s own index for the search. They reward content that already ranks well and is well structured.
  • Gemini: mixes its model with Google’s index. It rewards domain authority and structured data.
  • Copilot: relies on the Bing index. It rewards presence in Bing, which many Chilean companies neglect.

The practical consequence: if you only work on Google, you are left out of the conversations happening in ChatGPT and Copilot. And if you only work on your own site, you are left out of Perplexity, which favours citable third-party sources.

How to tell whether AI is already recommending you

Before hiring anything, you can measure this yourself in twenty minutes. The result tells you whether you have a visibility problem or a conversion one.

  1. Type your client’s question, not your name. What is the best [your service] in Chile? or who do I buy [your product] from in Santiago? Searching for your own brand measures nothing: AI names it because you named it.
  2. Repeat it in four engines. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot answer the same question differently. Note which ones you appear in and which you do not.
  3. Look at who it does name. Those are your real competitors in AI, and often they are not the ones you had in mind.
  4. Check which sources it cites. In Perplexity the links are on show. Almost always they are third-party rankings and listings, not the brands’ own sites. That is where the real work is.
  5. Repeat the exercise in a month. A single measurement is a snapshot; what matters is whether you improve.

What your site needs in place before you start

AEO/GEO does not start with content: it starts with AI being able to read you. These are the minimum requirements, in order.

  • That AI crawlers are allowed in. Many sites block GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot in their robots.txt file without knowing it. If they are blocked, nothing else matters.
  • That an llms.txt file exists. It is where you explain to the models what your company does, which pages matter and which data is true. It organises what AI understands about you.
  • Correct structured data. Organisation, service, frequently asked questions and breadcrumbs, in a format the machine reads without ambiguity.
  • Figures you can stand behind. Years in operation, number of clients, real reviews. AI cross-checks sources: if your site says one thing and your Google listing says another, you lose trustworthiness.
  • One clear answer per page. Every page should answer a specific question in its first paragraph, complete on its own.

What it costs and how long before it shows

At Bigbuda the SEO + AEO + GEO service comes in monthly plans: the entry plan, SEO Esencial, covers neither AEO nor GEO, and the two higher plans do. Prices are presented in a meeting, based on the scope. To see the market range, review the guide to agency prices in Chile.

On timeframes it is worth being frank: AI positioning is cumulative. The first signals, appearing in answers where you were absent before, usually show up within weeks. Consolidation, being stably on the shortlist AI recommends, is built over months. Anyone promising you a place in ChatGPT within days is not measuring anything.

What to ask an AEO/GEO supplier before hiring

It is a new category and that attracts improvisation. These five questions sort it out quickly.

  1. How do you measure whether AI names me today? There should be an initial measurement per engine and per question, not a general impression.
  2. Which engines do you cover? If they only talk about Google AI Overviews, they are doing SEO under another name.
  3. Which third-party sources will you work on? A good share of AI citations comes from other people’s rankings and directories. A plan that only touches your own site leaves out half the problem.
  4. What will you show me each month? Mentions per engine, share against competitors and which sources cite you. Not the number of articles published.
  5. What happens if my data does not add up? A good supplier will ask you to correct inflated figures before publishing. A bad one amplifies them.
